Air-Stream-Torrensville

A special gift from the Easter Bunny with another milestone being reached on the Easter Holidays. Helping the continued push to Go West with the successfully find of a new shinny egg at Torrensville. This is the first time a connection has been successfully made into the Torrensville area and it is hoped to be only one of many new sites to come, as the new nodes at Fulhum Gardens and Grange also come online.

Torrensville is now fully operational with a dedicated backbone link to Highgate Park and Superpass Omni for member access in and around the area.

Jeremy (remyzero) although a new member has jumped in with both hands volunteering to help on a number of projects recently and is also very keen to learn and help other members get connected.

The Torrensville Installation is using MikroTik Routerboard RB333 with Multi MiniPCI, including the latest high performance Atheros based wireless cards and yet still more to come. All purchased from Wifi Extreme who offer excellent deals and advice for all Air-Stream Members.

UPDATE: Torrensville now has a dedicated backbone link to Highgate Park and is currently peaking at 34mbits throughput!

Link Temporarly Disrupted

Due to issues with Carrick Hill there is no access to the rest of the network from this AP until resolved.
AP is still operational and has been seen from Marion.

Future plans include a 5.8GHz connection to Highgate and hopefully a connection to the new Fulham AP.

Torrensville Upgrades Complete

After some hard work put in on a cold saturday afternoon, and a bit of rearranging on the mast at Highgate....

Torrensville is now connected to Highgate via a 5.8Ghz link!
Further routeros upgrades and configurations done at the Torrensville end by DrGeforce3 over a vnc to winbox setup, saw a 1.5mb/s speed test from Pasadena.

Changes to Torrensville:
Removed 15db 2.4ghz in Vertical grid and replaced with a 29db 5.8ghz in Horizontal
Routeros upgrade from 3.0 to 3.8

My thanks to DrGeforce3 and Robert for the effort at Highgate on saturday and to TJ for help with the dish at Torrensville on sunday.

Further Additional Configuration

Swapping out the 400mw Senao for a 350mw Card now allows for a 42-51mbit link from Torrensville to Highgate using nstreme turbo technology.
Due to power issues at Highgate, the link is not 100% stable and flucuates slightly.

Planned stumble of the new Blair Athol site by realigning the 2.4GHz link away from Carrick Hill

Torrensville Down

Torrensville AP went down around Christmas time and its possible a main board or cabling problem.

Hopefully I can get up on the roof to check it out this weekend and will upgrade the RB333 to an 433.

RB600A Upgrade and New Links

Removal of the RB300 and replacement with the RB600 allowed for the use of 4 wireless cards

The additions were:
A 2.4GHz link to Torrensville2
A 5.8GHz link to Bellevue Heights (still in testing)
The standard link back to HighGate via 5.8GHz
And due to the boards performance with the XR2 cards, the omni can now be run with all other slots in use with no issues.

The RB600 also got itself a new LANGARD IP65 steel box which makes accessing the board a lot easier now.

Planned changes

Torrensville 2 is nearing stage 1 completion and will be added as a back bone to Torrensville 1 at the next available weekend.
