Didz 2004 Timeline

This was taken from the news section of my old wireless site which I had archived. I'm glad that I spent the time to type this all up and somehow keep it all these years, I thought that I had lost this information.

A line of site image was uploaded at Air-Stream. (938Kb, 17384 x 588 Pixels)

I purchased a 2 pack of black nylon cable glands, 20mm mounting hole- 10-14mm cable range. these are big enough for the RJ45 plug to fit though the cable range. One of these will be used to on the access points box.

(Roof LoS and stumbling)

On the Node Database the status has been changed from "Testing" to "Building"

Tuesday, 17 May, 2004
Today I started to assemble the box that the access point will be housed. Two holes were drilled and filed, One hole was filed to size and a cable gland attached for the pigtail. The other hole was filed only enough for the cat5 cable to fit as I don't have a cable big enough for the cat5 to fit though.

How I found out about Air-Stream

I wrote this up some time in early 2004 when I was first getting into Air-Stream.

I first heard about Air Stream Wireless when looking in the computers section of the advertiser mid last year. It had an article called Air Networks Take Off It sounded interesting connecting with no wires and no usage costs like Internet service providers. I went to the web site and found the Node Database. I found out that I knew JulzNet and SebbyNet.
I joined Air-Stream but didn't go there much after and forgot the password. (last time I logged in was Thursday 23 of October, 2003, thanks essbee for deleting the account).

In march 2003 I was looking though my favourites and saw it so I decided to go have a look again because I'm still interested.

Setup Update

Today I made changes to my setup. I lowered the 15db dish connected to Air-Stream Seaton and placed the Minitar MNWAPB inside the roof. I did this because the Minitar causes some interference to my UHF radio.
I have also put a ferrite core on the cat5 cable but I'm not sure if this helps at all.
I was surprised to find cool air flows between the double bricks so the Minitar wont be in any more harsh environment than it was before in a box out on the sun.

The UHF omni has been raised slightly to just over 9 metres from ground level.

Fire on the hills

There was a fire in the hills 16-11-05, took some pics.

29th - 30th Storm

29th August sunset just as the storm was comming in.

The storm that night, this is looking east overlooking the Royal Adelaide Golf Course. Mount lofty and the three towers are to the left in the gap.

Just a pic to compare of what it looks like in the day time of Mount Lofty, this was taken on the 18th of may 2004 on my roof.

24 hours after the first image at the top, the storm hits and 2 branches fall into the neighbours back yard and beaks a bit of the fence but missing the neighbours car port by inches, lucky they have no car parked at the time. Also notice the tree has a little less than before :P

I was under our car port when it happened, i saw the whole thing, was quite loud.

Didz Senao 2511CD PLUS EXT2

I keep repairing my pigtail and this time its on for good. As you can see I allready have quite a bit of heatshrink on it to stiffen it. on the N-male side you can see a small bulge from when i fixed it up with solder in the past

After ripping out the main connector when tring to take out one of my pigtails I was left with one connector. Normally you can use it fine and the drivers provided say that its getting a signal but netstumbler is completly blind.

I had been soldering the pigtail onto the card but would break soon after usally when really needed like stumbling on someones roof with no plan b.

It took me a few months before I had the corage to rip the other connector and decide to make that damn coax secure by runing it though the card itself filing up the rest of the card with glue

My units are based on a unit I purchased back in my noob days from Fishfood

Greets to all who read this pile of rant who call it a blog

On Sunday 27th March 2005 I finaly upgraded the Didz-Sebby Minitar to version 2.53 and did a full hardware reset. All is working well like before. Hopefully this will stop the problems of others on Air-Stream from not being able to reach me. If the problem still exists it may be a problem with SebbyNet as Senao access points are known to have packet forwarding issues.

Anyway hope thats all sorted out.
