A group has beem formed by Air-Stream members to work with interested code developers and every day people to look into practical ways to use OpenWRT able wireless devices and OLSR to build a very low cost grass roots community wireless networks.
There is no need to be a Air-Stream Member as anyone can participate, to join trials of the mesh network, all you need is a OpenWRT able wireless device , volenteer and participate.

What a Great Idea?!
Very interesting. I would certainly take part in it. I'd like to see further info on this as soon as possible.
Open WRT and OLSR Workshop Group
Indeed, I would be a willing volunteer for this project too.
I already have a "small" infrastructure in-place as a nieghbourhood mesh-wan-group-network.
Have the facilities, logistics, equipment with a little know-how as well.
This should prove very interesting to say the least.
Meeting June 28th OLSR testing
As per the comment in the meeting post, if you have a device with OpenWRT already installed please bring it along to the next meeting.
We can install OLSRd onto it and get a demo mesh test happening.
Website for discussion
Hi,
I am working on collecting all the information on mesh networking.
It can be found at http://www.safreenet.org
If you are interested, please add yourself to the Usermap at http://map.safreenet.org so we can get an idea of which areas to work in.
